Potomac River Running
Why do we do it? You know, run, cycle, and/or swim massive amounts of miles, keep training logs, spend hours fantacizing about our next race.
I find myself asking this every day. What drives us to do the things that others see as impossible, painful, and pointless?
Is there a voice inside of us that others lack?
Like an extra switch on an electric watch, that makes us tick? There has to be something, that’s for sure.
We know that if we train long enough, and hard enough, and with enough desire, that we will indeed reach our long awaited goals. We are determined, and as our eyes squint and begin to close, we snap them open each time, in defiance, in rage, in passion. We see obstacles as hurdles to be leaped over, and set backs as opportunities for comebacks.
We see soreness as a good sign, of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, and the ice bath as a place familiar as home.
We face good times and bad, and more bad times than good, but no matter what happens, we never will quit, because being a champion isn’t easy — it’s worth it.
