Current World Ironman Champion, Chrissie Wellington, releases her new training programmes for triathletes and runners
Available from www.audiofuel.co.uk from 9th January 2012, from £3.75
Chrissie Wellington has teamed up with sports music expert AudioFuel and Universal Music to create Tri Harder – a comprehensive range of training programmes for triathletes and runners. Designed for use on MP3 players, the programmes provide the unique combination of Chrissie’s voice, to coach and inspire, and AudioFuel’s sports music.
“I feel very strongly that as a professional triathlete my impact and message should be wider than my performance on the race course, and last longer than my athletic career” says Chrissie. “Tri Harder is one way I can take my philosophy and learning out to a wider audience and help encourage people to participate in sport.”
Based on her own training schedules and applying the motivational techniques that she uses herself when preparing to race, Chrissie has worked with AudioFuel to design and coach the four products.
Lace Up is a twelve minute motivational warm up session. An ambassador of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, Chrissie has decided that 50% of all sales generated by this Lace Up product will be donated to the charity. Run Faster is an interval training session designed to help people increase the pace at which they run. Ride Harder is a pyramid interval session designed for indoor cycling use on a turbo trainer or spin bike. Finally there is a twenty five minute relaxation programme, Relax.*
The Tri Harder product range has components that can be used by people across the fitness spectrum; from the novice runner right up to an elite athlete training for a full Ironman event. Regardless of the specific target in mind, the overall ambition for every product is to motivate and inspire people to perform better and achieve more than they think is possible.
Based on extensive research and development, AudioFuel has spent the last three years developing a highly effective approach to training that involves composing and compiling bespoke music and then combining it with coaching.
“The benefits of using music to enhance performance are widely accepted. What we’ve done at AudioFuel is analyse which components of mainstream music work most effectively, and then compose music that combines these key ingredients: beats to match the stride, consistently managed vibe to maintain energy plus relevant lyrics” says AudioFuel founder Sean Blair.
Paul Smernicki, Head of UK Digital at Universal Music and a GB age group triathlete says “As a business we’re always looking to innovate. By putting together a gold winning athlete and a pioneering music brand like AudioFuel, we’re confident that we’ve created a truly state of the art range of products that will have particular appeal to triathletes and runners.”

Lace Up is a 12 minute motivational warm up session. Composed by AudioFuel’s Music Director, Howie Saunders, best known for creating the high octane soundtrack for The Matrix, the Lace Up tracks use every sound trick in the book to pump you up and get you out of the house feeling up for anything.
Combined with the music, Chrissie uses the key principles that lie behind her mental strength to engage the listener and mentally gear them up as they prepare to train.
Run Faster is an interval training session designed to help people increase the pace at which they run. For the fittest end of the market there is the full 52-minute session (RRP £9.99). For the less fit, or those with less time available, there are also 25 and 40 minute versions.
The full 97 minute Ride Harder session is a pyramid interval session designed for indoor cycling use on a turbo trainer or spin bike. Again, there are shorter versions at 40 and 60 minutes.
Finally there is Relax – a 25 minute programme which provides music to relax deeply while Chrissie talks about the importance of relaxation and guides listeners through relaxing their minds and bodies. The session finishes with a visualization.
The business was founded by Sean Blair, Clare Crean and Howie Saunders in 2009. The business creates audio fitness products by combining custom composed music with voice coaching to create training programmes. The music is designed for sport: it has a beat to match the activity, energising vibes and relevant lyrics. And just like DJs control the energy of the dancefloor, AudioFuel compiles its music into a soundtrack that creates the right emotional state throughout the training session. The voice over coaching gives the user encouragement, tips and factual information about their training session.
